Moving home can be a stressful experience. Our moving tips will help you avoid common mistakes while also making the process of moving home as efficient, cost-effective, and easy as possible.
- Contact utilities providers and providers of other regular services.
- Eat everything in your freezer before moving day. It’ll go to waste otherwise.
- De-clutter your home in advance of the move.
- Make sure your insurance is transferred to your new house for the day of the move.
- Get your packaging materials in plenty of time, and make sure you have enough.
- If you’re renting, you will probably need to get professional cleaners in once all your stuff is moved out. Make sure you book these cleaners in advance.
- Get your rugs professionally cleaned before the move. They’ll come back to you not only clean, but also rolled and wrapped, i.e. ready to move.
- Make up a moving day essentials box/bag/case. This should include everything you’ll need on the day of the move – towels for everyone in the family, clothes, toiletries, etc.
- Get someone to look after the children.
- Get your last-minute laundry done a day or two before leaving day.
- Make sure everything is packed and ready to go the day before the move.
- Defrost your fridge and freezer the day before moving day.
- Make sure all valuable documents are packed in a safe place.
- Charge your phone.
- Take time to eat a good breakfast. Moving day is a big day, and a good breakfast will help set you up.
- Do a quick check of the new home when you arrive to make sure everything is as expected.
